Changes

                                                                        Changes
At first the front cover of my magazine looked boring and dull. What I was planning on making was not what I ended up producing. My main colour to begin with was 'red' then I changed the colour scheme do a light pinky/red. This made me magazine look way more affective than what it did before. So my whole magazine looked different from what I wanted it to look like when I first started designing it. However, the changes I made made my magazine look 10x better than my original plan.

I first decided that my contents page was just going to have a few pictures. When I started to design this I wasn't impressed with the appearance. I then developed my double page spread to have a collage in the background, I edited the pictures to be black and white, I edited the pictures to be black and white so the writing and pictures on top of the double page spread stood out, if I didn't edit the pictures then my text wouldn't have stood out more.

These are the pictures I used for my back cover, I chose to have random photos for the back cover to link to the target audience who use social networking.

First Photoshoot For Magazine

                                                        First Photoshoot

I managed to get all my photos done in my first photoshoot. These photos worked first time and went well with my magazine. I took the photos outside when it was starting to get dark, this gave it a good effect for when my model was smoking. I took photos inside and out. This was good because I had a vary idea of pictures for my magazine. I had different costume changes so my magazine looked more appealing and it also made it look like I put more thought and idea into my magazine.

Creating My Contents Page

Contents page

This is what i started to make in one lesson, I thought i'd stick to the colour scheme that I have used all through my magazine. I don't like what i have created at the moment. I think the pink writing really stands out and look interesting,  it also fits in with the rest of my magazine.

This is what my contents page is going to look like. I am yet to add pictures to  my magazine. I tried to make my contents page look like the rest of my magazine. I think my magazine looks successful as it isn't dull or boring. It's full of pictures and a wide rang of colours.

This is my outcome of my contents page. I am going to change the pictures on the left hand side, I am going to replace them with pictures that I am going to create. I stayed with my colour scheme of the 'indie' looking pink. I also added it in with my page notes and along with a quote. I chose to have the quote in the colour white, this then went well with the main title at the top. I am yet to add and adjust certain things.

Final contents page!

This is so far my final outcome for my contents page,  I've decided to add all the colours i've used from my magazine all over my magazine. This means i've made my contents page full of bright colours, however it looks more eye catching which makes it appealing.

Creating My Double page Spread

I produced this whilst making my double page spread, however I decided i didn't want to use this anymore and started to make something different. I think this is too dull and doesn't fit in well with what else i'm going to produce in my music magazine, it will just look odd.

I began making a collage of all the pictures of my model, I am yet to finish. When I'm done the whole background will be in black and white pictures. I chose to do this because its different from other magazines, i still have more ideas of what i'm going to do with this.

This is my final piece finished. I chose pictures of the model and edited them to be black and white, i am yet to edit and add more. I think this looks successful because its different from what i see in other magazines. I think it fits in with my genre of being 'Indie'. This is not finished as I ran out of time. I am going to add a colourful picture over the top of the black and white, this will then make it stand out more. I decided to take these pictures over 3 weeks as I knew I wanted a collage to represent social media to represent with my teenage audience.
This is what i started to do in todays lesson. I put a pink border around the collage of pictures in the background so it wen't with my front cover image and also the main image on my double page spread. I decided to stick all to the same colour on my pages so my magazine doesn't look odd or out of place. However i decided that there was too much pink for the genre that i have chose my magazine to be.
As I decided my magazine was too pink, i began changing around with fonts and colours and this was my outcome. I have still got a slight bit of pink because it goes really well together and stands out. I decided to add the colour grey, as when i was editing the background i decided to have all the pictures Grey. I think this goes well as it fits in with the background, the colours Pink and Grey also go very well together. I added a box with some 'Top Questions' as I thought it will give the magazine more attention. There is more text than before and I think this makes my magazine successful because now my target audience have more to read about. I started by asking questions that aren't anything to do with the interview, but more personal questions that the viewers will want to know.

Photoshop before and after edits

Creating My Front Cover of Magazine.

First Screenshot

This is the first screen shot of making my music magazine. I decided to start at the top and work my way down the bottom as I thought this would look more organised as I begin to make my magazine. By choosing to make my magazine this way I have more understanding of where I am going to add certain things. I decided to leave my main image till last.

Second Screenshot

Next I began to make my sub headings, I chose a sort of type writing font instead if a boring font like 'Arial'. On my front cover I decided to make it eye catching by advertising that there are free posters in my magazine, this will then bring more attention to my magazine rather than others.

Third Screenshot

Next I decided to add the important part onto my front page, the barcode and price. I chose a font which would stand out too the audience, as when I done my research customers said they didn't like that they didn't know the price of the magazine until they actually got to the checkout. I also decided to add some 'Plus' information because advertising whats in the magazine on the front cover lets the customers know what they actually get to see in the magazine and could make it more appealing.

Fourth screenshot

The next thing i decided to do, was add a blurb. This is what they use in the industry to establish the issue date and issue number. I have changed the font to make it stand out more and make the readers eye move down the page.
I decided to give my magazine title a background as I thought it gave more balance to my magazine, it also makes it stand out more than my original title. I moved the barcode and price up the top as I thought the customers will appreciate being able to see the price more clearly. I changed the colours from red to a dark pink as then it clashed more with my main image.

This is what I came out with at the end of todays session. I added my background and edited my models hair so it was more 'pink' rather than 'Red'. i added more text to the front of my magazine so the buyers have an idea of what they're buying. It also made my magazine look more interesting as it looks more eye catching with all the text.

Typography Planning

What I Leant?
From doing this activity, i have learnt that the way your typography is presented throughout the magazine is important in the way that you want your appearance to be rated. By choosing your font and colour for your magazine has to be based on what genre your magazine is doing to be in order to make it successful and professional. By doing tasks on fonts, I now have more awareness and understanding on what sort of font i need to use to be successful with my genre of 'Indie'.

My Magazine Ratecard

What I Learnt?
I learnt how to make a rate card, by doing this it has gave me more knowledge and understanding on how difficult making a magazine actually is, and how hard it is to find the information that suits your magazine. I found it hard choosing a colour scheme that isn't boring and dull, in the end I chose a black and red theme because I thought it would stand out more than just having standard colours. I put the key stats on my rate card as I think the readers will appreciate knowing how many percentage of males and females will read my magazine etc. I also decided to put in the 'circulation' so the viewers know how many copies of the magazine i am making are sold monthly. This will make the readers more interested in buying the magazine as it has sold so many copies.

Fashion Planning for Level Up

From doing this powerpoint, I now have more understanding on what clothes my artist will wear. This has helped me due to the fact now my construction will come together which will help me create a magazine suitable to my genre.

What I've learnt so far through Year 12

                                                             Media Homework

In media so far I have learnt all about institution. In order by doing this I done a lot of research which helped me find points and give me more awareness and understanding about what the Music Magazine industry is actually about. By doing the research for the product I intend to make I have taught myself what the expectations of actually producing a music magazine will contain.

So far in Media Studies I am happy with what I have accomplished due to the fact I produce most of my work as well as I possibly could. So far in media I have learnt and understood what media terminology is this has helped me to complete my work with the grade I am aimed for.

By doing my research I have learnt what it takes to make a front cover of a music magazine I have learnt what the target audience will enjoy more, this has helped me to make my music magazine as I now know what sort of things I need to include in order to make a successful music magazine. I have learnt about colours and fonts which also has helped me to understand what I can make for my music magazine. Along the way in media i have found out about music magazines and what sort of things need to be included in order to make an appropriate music magazine which will help me to make an excellent music magazine and achieve my grade I need.

I have leant all about the media institution, which has helped me to develop my media coursework a lot and make it look  more appealing.  By doing simple tasks like, designing a school magazine has gave me more awareness about what I am going to produce later in Year 12.

Whilst being in media I have learnt more about the software on a Mac. Things like photoshop which has helped to give me more of an understanding, whilst working on things like this it helped me to make my pictures stand out more in my course work. I have tried out using key note and pages, I find these better than using things like microsoft word.

Logo Experimentation for Level Up

What I learnt?

By doing the Logo experimentation I learnt what font I will be using by experimenting around with different fonts. In the end i chose the font that stood out more, I also chose the font which I thought my target audience would enjoy more.  With the colours i still haven't chosen i thought that red would stand out more and my target audience may find it more interesting due to the fact it won't be a dull boring front cover but it will be filled with lots of different colours rather than sticking to a simple colour scheme. By doing this task I now have a better understanding on what i want to accomplish with my magazine, I have a better understanding of what I will fit in for my target audience to appreciate the magazine more.

Planning For Level Up Magazine

My decisions:

I have decided to have more than one picture on my magazine front cover, however i may change my mind as i want my target audience to focus on the main image that will be taken for my front cover. All the attention my magazine will get will be based on my front cover so I am rethinking on the layout. From doing this task I now have more understanding on how I am going to take my photoshoot, e.g. how many photos, what genre... I know what needs to be included in my magazine, which therefore means my knowledge has now increased and i am more confident on making my magazine.

2nd Draft for the Double Page Spread

Interview with Leonie

Interviewer: Hello Leonie, how are you feeling?
Leonie: Yeah I’m good, thanks for having me.
Interviewer- Who was the first person to signed you to their label? You have seemed to make it big and you’re known worldwide!
Leonie- Yeah *laughs * well, Simon Cowell was a close friend of mine. I first met him through my work on the X Factor.  He gave me a chance and I was so grateful. I know if I wanted to make it in the music industry he was the man to go too, and I’m where I am now is because of Simon Cowell.
Interviewer: When you  were on tour, did anything gross happen on the bus with your other band mates?
Leonie: Ha-ha, um yeah…. My friend Jack was asleep and we put loads of disgusting things around him so in the night he’d roll all over in it.  We put beans and egg right next to his head ready for breakfast!  Touring was amazing.  I will never forget it! Thank you to my fans that got me this far
Interviewer: What happens on tour stays on tour!  I heard you’re recently making a new album and you are filming it in an exotic country.  How was that?
Leonie: So true *sniggers *.  Yeah well as my previous albums have been based in England I wanted to give my fans something a little different.
Interviewer: Is this a permanent change for you?
Leonie: I wouldn’t say change, more like bringing something new to the table. I don’t want people to get bored of my music so it’s good to have a twist in it somewhere! Keeps the music more alive.
Interviewer: As a star, fans want to know the ins and outs of your personal life. Do you have any bad habits?
Leonie: Um of course ha-ha, I have a few. One would be when I get hyper I start to speak in different accents.  I do an amazing Welsh accent. I also bite my nails all the time; my Mum still tells me off.
Interviewer: It seems your too busy for relationships whilst making your music?
Leonie: Music is what I do. I have time for the man in my life. We make it work. I am a very organized person.
Interviewer: Does this mean you’re seeing a man?
Leonie: Maybe, but that’s all your getting.
Interviewer: Why should people buy your new single?
Leonie- Because I promise it will be worth their time. My songs will inspire you.  Also it’s awesome.   Its better than other music is at the moment! There is a twist!

Before I go I just would like to say thank you to my fans for supporting me through this exciting time in my life! <3

Flat plan for Level Up

Why I made this decision:
Even though I will not be making a whole magazine, by laying out what would have been in my magazine has gave me more of an understanding on how a magazine tries to use all the components which will create a successful magazine.

Mood Board Research

I learnt what representation of media magazines usually will use in their magazine. I found out that they usually will stick to a colour scheme. They also use appealing unusual pictures that will stand out to the target audience. I also learnt by doing this how to set up my magazine and where to put pictures, this helped me understand what I need to do and use in order to create a successful music magazine.

Flat Plan for NME and MOJO

What I have learnt?

By doing this I learnt how much writing magazines actually have and how often they have advertisements. I learnt that that all magazines have a few pages of adverts in their magazines. The majority of the magazines was filled by articles by artists and included pictures and posters. Articles are very important to a magazine because it makes it more interesting than just having lots of pictures. The target audience want to see articles based on the artist.

Contents Page Research

What I learnt?

In this task, I learnt about how codes and conventions are used on a contents page of a music magazine. I also learnt that different magazine brands don't have the same layout and design compared to other music magazines. I really liked how NME and Q is layed out, they used a variety of fonts and colours which made the magazine look clear and show where everything is without having to hunt for it. I will consider using these techniques when making my magazine.

Annotating music magazines

What I have learnt?

I became aware of codes of conventions. I also learnt that the music artist changed his outfit on certain pictures. I learnt that the target audience prefer bright fonts but hardly writing more pictures than writing. I learnt how to use research to find things out about the magazine. I looked in books and on websites and this is how I annotated the magazine by getting key words and linking them to a double page spread.
